Q: Can I use BENGAY® products with an oral pain reliever, such as TYLENOL®?

A: Use of combinations of drugs can increase potential risks, therefore, consult with your doctor.

Q: What is the difference between how a topical pain reliever and an oral pain reliever work?

A: Topical pain relievers are applied right where you hurt, but oral pain relievers must be ingested and absorbed by your system.

Q: Can I use a topical pain reliever instead of an oral pain reliever for my minor backache, muscle or joint pain? For arthritis?

General Product Usage

Q: How quickly does the vanishing scent in BENGAY® creams and gels vanish?

A: Many BENGAY® Brand products are formulated with a “vanishing scent” that starts to disappear minutes after it is applied. This means you could, for example, apply some BENGAY® cream or gel when you are getting ready in the morning, and by the time you arrive at work or school, the scent would be virtually gone.

Q: Where does the brand name “BENGAY®” come from?

A: BENGAY® is named after the French-born pharmacist Dr. Jules Bengué, who invented it in 1898.

Q: Can I use BENGAY® Cold Therapy and BENGAY® Ultra Strength Cream on the same body part?

A: BENGAY® products are formulated to be effective when used alone, therefore we recommend not using more than one product on the same body area at the same time.

Q: Can I use BENGAY® creams and gels with a heating pad?

A: No. The FDA and Consumer Product Safety Commission have issued a public health advisory on the use of heating pads. Among the individuals it identifies as being at particular risk for electric heating pad burn injuries are persons who may be unable to feel pain to the skin because of medication. It also indicates that a heating pad should never be used by a person who has skin that is not sensitive to temperature change. Since topical analgesics affect pain and skin temperature perception, they should not be used with a heating pad.
